Skyway to Arendelle

Disneyland.

I get chills.

Oh, it’s not cold out there, it’s even pretty warm here in sunny California.

It’s what I see that causes the chilling.

I’am in Fantasyland, the very heart of Disneyland, USA.

In front of me stands the Skyway Chalet finally free of overgrown trees.

It’s been restaured, repainted, beautifull as ever.

As i hold my two years old daughter’s hand, i’m getting closer to the chalet.

I’m a DL’s longtime guest and i must say that, seing the chalet back is very exciting.

(after all it was dedicated by Walt Disney, on june 1956)

And it will attract new generation by receiving the Frozen franchise .

And in that case it’s my daughter who is running towards the entrance.

The chalet’s architecture as well as it’s decoration, such as the clock, the floral patterns painted on the wood , are very close, some says identical to the ones we can see in Arendelle , the kingdom of Elsa.

It allows the park to use again a part of Fanstasyland, closed since november 1994.

It’s position on the north side of FL and it’s berm filled with trees, is perfect to hide showbuilding.

Former& New location

The exterior, reminds the begining of the Frozen movie.

The chalet is located in the ice extraction fields.

Ice cubes,  saws and other tools, sleighs, are scattered here and there.

Workers’ song, echoes in the distance.

A marquee sign tells me the adventure’s name :

FROZEN : Skyway to Arendelle

Excited, we enter it.

Inside, is the ice cubes’s loading station .

The smart businessman Oaken, owner of the Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post and Sauna

get’s ice cubes delivering by Skyway, to stock it and sell it in summer time and other occasions.

We can see the ice cubes getting loaded on the skyway gondolas, then pulled out the station by a cable.

Surprise, Olaf (Audio Animatronic) stands above the queue, telling us the whole Oaken ice business,

He’s also inviting us (kinda barker style) to get in a gondola to enjoy  the view on Arendelle’s landscapes.

We get in.

Our gondola leaves the station, in the darkened exit tunnel, we can see Olaf(projection) catching up with us, and getting on the gondola’s roof.

We cannot see him anymore, but we sure hear him, made comments about the stuff we see and even sings.

My daughter finds this funny.

We exit the tunnel,

And we’re still low, narrowing betwen the masts of the boats anchored in Arendelle’s bay.

We pass above the boat which is about to set sails for the Southern Isles, we can even notice Hans getting jailed aboard.

The cable rises, we are now able to see inside castle court where, Anna, Kristoff and Sven are ice skating.

Anna gracefully performs figures, Kristoff isn’t at ease, and Sven is the comic relief skatting on its bottom.

The cable still rises above the hills, one can see the trolls gathering .

In the distance the Ice Castle on it’s peak appears out of the mist.

Suddenly, we’are panicking, Marshmallow appears out of nowhere and tries to rip the gondola

out of the cable, it tilts, resists fot a while then rips.

Marshmallow pulls us towards the Ice Castle, he manages to rip the ice cube of the gondola,

Then ads it to a strange, kinda look like him, thing is building.

Elsa stroms in, her dress lights up (Let it go style), my daughter cheers up, with a magic gesture, she pulls our gondola back to the cable, then with another magic wave of the hand, makes Marshmallow’ s creation shine

We move over a crest, the journey down begins,

We can see the skyway terminal in the distance,

On the sides and under us Snowgies are skying, ice skatting, bobsledding…

In the distance on a hill, waving, stand Elsa, Marshmallow and…Marshmallow’s brand new girlfriend ?

In the entrace tunnel of the Skyway terminal, Olaf (projection) get of our gondola’s roof, and runs away, too much excited to finally experiment Oaken’ s famous sauna.

Unload aera

We can see ice cubes getting , processed and storage for differents purposes, such as ice cream destination, cool beverages departments…

We leave our gondola and we exit in a gift shop, all set from Wandering Oaken’s

It ‘s filled with Frozen products.

There’s even the famous Sauna, already occupied by Olaf, who finds it very effective as he has already lost weight.

My daughter is interested in a Sven Plush,

Me ?

I am, of course, attracted by an Ice Cream, made with « local ice » .
